The Choirs of Saint Peter

For many years, the adult choir has sung at the 10:30a Mass and performs for many of the special services, such as Forty Hours, the Latin Requiem Mass on All Souls', and Midnight Mass on Christmas. Currently led by Mr. Sal Scarpa and his wife, Christine, this group rehearses on Thursdays at 7:00p.

The "Youth" Choir is a deceptive name for this musical group, which is made up of the young adults of the parish - those who are in high school, college, and beyond. They traditionally sing at the Sunday evening Mass and participate in many of the other liturgical events in the parish such as Solemn Vespers held during November, the month of All Souls', Morning Prayer and Night Prayer during Forty Hours, the Living Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, and as part of the adult choir for major events in the parish. Rehearsals are Sunday evenings before the 7:00p Mass.

Before the children's choir was formed, there were two Masses at 9a. The adults were upstairs in the church while the children were in the lower church for their own special liturgy and homily. Initially, just a boys' choir was assembled; however, as altar-serving duty called and voices began changing, it was necessary to add girls to keep the choir going. Welcomed additions to the choir over the years have included home schoolers in the parish. Over the years, the children's choir have performed in various malls and nursing homes. The highlight of the year is the beautiful Christmas Nativity Pageant and Mass. Other activities in which the choir participates are the Christmas parades, tree lightings, and weddings. Graduates have gone on to high school choirs and to leads in musical productions. Currently, Mrs. Joan Judd and Adam Wallace oversee this labor of love. Rehearsals are held on Thursdays at 2:30p.
